May 14, 2010 'Strengthening Linkages/ Partnership in Philippine Libraries'

May 17-19 & 26-28, 2010 “Web Technologies: Training for Development of Library and Teaching Resources”

Dear Sir/Madam:

Attached is the Memorandum of CHED Chairman Emmanuel Y. Angeles on the Philippine eLibrary Project's last two (2) trainings on “Web Technologies: Training for Development of Library and Teaching Resources” .

In line with this, all faculty members, librarians and IT personnel from public and private colleges and universitites are invited to attend the said training. It will be conducted on the following schedules:

May 17-19, 2010 - Iloilo City
May 26-28, 2010 - Davao City

Registration fee payable to the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) is five thousand pesos (5,000.00) per participant. The fee shall cover the lunch and snacks for three (3) days, proceedings/papers in CD, training kit and certificate of participation. Further, participating librarians will earn 20 CPE units for this training.

May 5, 2010 “Booktalks on Research, Cognitive Learning, Learning Style and Educational Management”

Dear Colleagues and Friends:

We are pleased to inform you that the Book Talk Society of the Philippines (BTSP) will hold a forum on “Booktalks on Research, Cognitive Learning, Learning Style and Educational Management” on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon to be held at the Edilberto P. Dagot Hall Conference Room, Philippine Normal University, Taft Ave., Manila. The forum objectives are: 1) To create an atmosphere of healthy and intellectual discussion on books of inherent concern on teaching, learning, research and school supervision and management; 2) To develop a special kind of acquaintances and camaraderies among avid readers who enjoy discussing and sharing ideas on how to improve teaching and learning craftmanship through the wisdom drawn from sources of knowledge, information and inspiration; and, 3) To encourage avid readers to think of organizing their own book talk societies and eventually tie up with the BTSP which is destined to be incorporated; hence, be affiliated with BTSPI.

Registration fee of Php 200.00 to cover membership fee, snacks and certificate of participation shall be charged each participant.

The Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians, Inc. (Every Librarian’s Association), in cooperation with the C & E Publishing, is pleased to invite you to this year’s half-day training workshop themed on Communicating Effectively in the Library Workplace, beginning 1pm to 5pm on May 27, 2010 at the C & E Information and Resource Center located along Quezon Boulevard, (beside Hi-Top Supermarket) Quezon City.

It has been the Association’s desire to assist its members and other individuals to be great conversationalists in the library workplace. Please come and have someone, a model/trainor, whose conversational skills you can admire. The Association invites very able, dynamic and speech expert Professor Ruth Alido, faculty of the College of Languages, Linguistics and Literature of the Philippine Normal University, for a high impact training to help us hone our conversational skills.

The said afternoon high impact half-day training is aimed at gaining oral English proficiency skills to better improve library personnel’s aptitude and competence in expressing their thoughts and ideas; coaching librarians and non-librarians when, how to speak with confidence and enjoy conversations while faced by library clients namely students, faculty members, guests, administrators, researchers and the like; and, enabling each to be great conversationalist at all times, wired or not web-based.

There is a registration fee of P300.00 for members, P350 for non-members and P100 for students to cover the snacks and certificates. June 2-4, 2010 Reinventing Libraries and Librarians

Greetings from ALAP!

Agricultural Librarians Association of the Philippines (ALAP) invites you to a Seminar on “Reinventing Libraries and Librarians”and its 38th General Assembly on June 2-4, 2010 at College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology (CEAT) Library, UPLB.

With the emerging technologies, new issues, needs and services have to be addressed for the evolving roles of libraries and librarians. Among the issues to be discussed are education, emerging technologies, economic opportunities, promotion and management. This seminar is intended for those in the library and IT profession, as well as for staff who want to reinvent themselves for greater relevance. A half-day tour to nearby libraries (IRRI, UPLB & Vet Med) to provide diverse exposure is also scheduled. CHED/DECS Memo and CPE credit units will be applied for.

Our speakers are professionals in the field and willing to impart their knowledge and expertise.

Seminar fees in the amount of P3,500.00 (live-out) and P4,200.00 (live-in) include snacks, lunch, fellowship dinner, and kit.

Ramos, also supervised a memorial library, came to PNU from barrio library work, where he managed three libraries and adult classes for Trinity College of Quezon City-Sagada Special Academic Program for 3 years. He started as a teacher-librarian (E. Abada High School, DCS, Manila) in 1992, became an instructor-librarian for six years (St. Louis College of Valenzuela City), and previously college librarian of the Education & Periodicals Section of PNU, 2008 president to PNU-LISAA, Inc., now conference chair to Every Librarian's Association, PAARL, Inc He earned academic units both for Master in Public Administration and Master in Educational Management. Presently, he is enrolled in MAED with Library Science as specialization at PNU and used to work in the IRS of DLSU-Manila and now associate librarian to its Archives services.
